Paramedic saved mother life
The patient Mrs. Mohana Begum of vill: Suratpur, Union: Tajpur of Balaganj district in Shimantik, SSFP catchments area had started labor pain at 2:00 am in the midnight on 24 February. Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) was at home to conduct the delivery. But when the family members saw that the condition of the woman was not good, they called Paramedic of Shimantik clinic to see the woman. When she visited the patient, she saw that two ropes were tied in her abdomen and the woman could not take breath and was having respiratory distress. The fetal heart sound was also irregular. Immediately she opened the ropes and the woman could take her breath and was feeling easy. She kept the woman on her left lateral position. The woman was dehydrated and was given liquid.

She had her strong uterine contraction and she delivered normally an asphyxiated male baby. There was first degree perineal tear and was repaired by the Paramedic. Our Paramedic resuscitated the baby and gave mouth to mouth breathing. After ½ an hour, the baby cried and took colostrums and looked better. On 3rd day, Paramedic visited the woman and her baby and was found good.

It needs to be mentioned here that it is mandatory for all home delivery staff of SSFP network to conduct PNC visit within 3rd day of delivery to know the condition of the mother and baby. If that SSFP Paramedic was not available at the time of delivery of that woman, the woman could die even before delivery.
