Smiling Sun Safe Delivery Saves Lives
Safe delivery services at Smiling Sun Ultra Clinics have saved 249 women like Mrs. Talukdar. Mrs. Talukdar expresses her gratitude to Smiling Sun clinic staff for saving her life.
In a country where one in 51 women might die due to complications during childbirth, Mrs. Lucky Talukdar could have been one more addition to this grim statistic. As a woman who waited more than the recommended 3-5 years to have a second child and who made the decision, along with her family, to opt for natural child birth after a previous cesarean section, the cards were stacked against her.

During her antenatal care visits Mrs. Talukdar was advised to come to the clinic if she experienced any severe abdominal pain or other symptoms. Clinic staff knew that with Mrs. Talukdar’s history she would likely experience complications.

Nearing the end of her pregnancy Ms. Talukdar began having severe abdominal pain. She was admitted to the Smiling Sun Clinic, where, the doctor performed an emergency cesarean and discovered she had a ruptured uterus, which can lead to the death of both mother and child if not treated quickly and effectively. In Mrs. Taludkdar’s case, quick and effective treatment resulted in both the birth of a healthy baby girl and the repair of her uterus.

Today Mrs. Talukdar and her baby girl, Shumi, are alive and well thanks to the availability of the quality emergency obstetric care services she received at the Smiling Sun Ultra franchised clinic operated by Nishkriti Rahattar Pool in West Bakalia, just one of 34 Ultra clinics in the Smiling Sun Network where these emergency services are available.

This treatment is standard practice at Smiling Sun Ultra clinics, where clients receive safe and reasonably priced alternatives to home delivery, including cesarean sections when required. Smiling Sun Ultra clinics have performed 12,714 safe deliveries last year, a 40 percent increase, saving the lives of approximately 249 women and their children.
