The Bangla Daily Jai Jai Din in its January 12, 2010 issue featured Smiling Sun, highlighting quality of health care service delivery at the Sibganj Amtoli Smiling Sun Clinic in Bogra. The report illustrates how Bangladeshis are getting better services at affordable prices. The report includes interviews to clients as well as service providers.

 

In one story, Mr. Toffazzal Hossain of Bakshon village of Shibganj recounts how he came to the clinic with his wife  Ms. Mousomi, requesting general health services. After visiting the Doctor they commented that the clinic was clean and Doctors, Nurses and other service providers were very kind and friendly. He and his wife were very satisfied with the quality of services and reasonable charges.

 

The clinic was established by BAMANEH in 1998 to provide health services to the poor people in a small scale. After entering the Smiling Sun network, the clinic has changed totally. Almost all modern treatments facilities for mother and child are available here. People are now getting different services in the clinic, including mother care, ANC, PNC, all kind of family planning services and child care, ARI, Influenza and diarrhea along with lab test facilities. Clinic Manager Mr. Tarun Karmakar said health care services were modestly charged.

 

The clinic has health clubs in eighty villages where they discuss about health services regularly. The clinic authority said to the reporter that Amtoli Clinic have been providing family planning services to 34,340 couples in the area. Besides, they have been providing free services with free medicine to 2,900 poor. The article mentions how Grameen Phone helps to cover all expenses of health services for the poor. The report referred Mr. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Chief of Asia Foundation, who observed that Smiling Sun has been doing excellent job in terms of health care services with modern facilities for the poor people of Bangladesh .
